How to Care for Your Handmade Jewellery

Handmade jewellery is crafted with love and care—so it deserves to be looked after properly to keep it beautiful for years to come. Whether it's sterling silver, gold-filled, pearls, or semi-precious stones, here are some simple tips to keep your pieces looking their best.

1. Store Properly

Keep jewellery in a dry, cool place. Use soft pouches or boxes to avoid scratches and tangling. Sterling silver can tarnish, so storing it in an airtight bag can help.

2. Avoid Water & Chemicals

Take off your jewellery before showering, swimming, or cleaning. Chemicals in water and products like perfume, hairspray, and lotions can damage metals and dull stones and pearls.

3. Last On, First Off

Make jewellery the last thing you put on when getting ready and the first thing you take off at the end of the day. This helps minimise exposure to makeup, hair products, and sweat.

4. Clean Gently

  • Sterling Silver: Use a silver polishing cloth or a gentle silver cleaner.
  • Gold-Filled: Wipe with a soft, damp cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Pearls: Wipe with a soft cloth after wearing. Never soak.
  • Gemstones: A soft toothbrush and mild soap can remove dirt, but avoid soaking porous stones (like turquoise or opal).

5. Wear With Love

Handmade jewellery is made to be enjoyed. With a little mindful care, each piece can remain a favourite for many years.
